Building Out Your Summer Wardrobe The Right Way

Every summer, I used to buy clothes tailored for a specific trip instead of focusing on developing my warm weather capsule wardrobe. I actually have come to really dislike the word ‘capsule wardrobe’ because it often connotes a generic set of items like black pants and white tees… however, I believe everyone can curate their own capsule wardrobe that reflects their personal style. Anways, year after year I found myself frustrated feeling like I had nothing right to wear. However, things have taken a turn… my summer purchases have followed suit with the way I shop for the rest of the year: prioritizing practicality and classic items that will stand the test of time—versatile staples, many of which can transition effortlessly from day to night. I avoid items I know I won't wear, opting instead for what I gravitate towards most and ensuring my wardrobe truly reflects me!

A great rule of thumb is to make sure you can style the new piece more than 5 ways with what you already own. If you can, it is more than likely that the piece is a good buy… bonus points if it can transition from day to night.

I fell in love with everything Starling last week at their beautiful event in Brooklyn. You must browse the website. The women behind the brand are incredible which always makes a purchase 10x better. I see a cloud ring in my future…

This set will soon enough be out of stock! I suggest grabbing one if you are even thinking of it. I have a very similar style and its my favorite. Deiji Studios is wonderfully priced and is of great quality ~ $200 for the full set.

I always reccommend having a handful of sets and easy dresses to throw on when it gets hot… simple linen, comfortable and ones you actually want to wear (instead of ones that sit in your closet for the summer untouched). Make it an effortless decision to look put together on a 90 degree day (and everyday).

Alex Mill has amazing linen. J. Crew is another favorite. Not included in the above… this short set (top here) and these pants are a client favorite.

Replace a tee or tank with a vest and the look is instantly elevated (although a white tank is never a bad idea either… recently loving this one). Vests are so practical and for the girls with bigger chests who don’t always love the look of a tight white top, these are it. I just splurged on the one above and I am thrilled about it… more options further down along with ways to style them.
